Freedom of Press in Myanmar
This paper summarizes the developments on “Media freedom in Myanmar since the by-election of 2012”. The long isolated Southeast Asia country is currently in transition from a former military dictatorship towards a multiparty democracy. The opening process effects all parts of society and the suspension of the media censorship through the government was one of the remarkable developments in the last years. But, as analysed by the author, recent developments may have a negative impact on the transformation process.
