Left-Wing Politics in Germany

In this lecture, Wulf Gallert analyzes the current state and challenges of Germany's left-wing party Die Linke. The lecture was given at the inaugural 'future dialogue' with the Communist Party of Vietnam and facilitated by RLS Hanoi.

Gallert initially describes the socio-economic conditions in Germany. Over the past decades, the country has experienced rapid privatization as well as an erosion of labor rights and of the social welfare system. Gallert continues by explaining how these shifts are impacting Germany's political system in general and Die Linke in particular. Finally, he outlines several of the party's ongoing projects and debates.

Wulf Gallert is Vice-President of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt, European policy spokesperson for Die Linke's parliamentary group in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, and Co-Chair of the Left Party’s International Commission.
